Palantir (PLTR) delivered a solid earnings reports, beating EPS estimates by 17.14%, revenue estimates by 7.18%, growing revenue 92.83% year-over-year, raising full-year guidance by roughly $500 million. The stock then rallied 12.05% during its first hourly earnings candle before extending to a 16.68% maximum favorable excursion. This PLTR case study examines why PLTR became a textbook example of what can happen when exceptional fundamentals align with bullish technical momentum.

On August 3, 2026, Palantir Technologies (PLTR) delivered a strong quarter, which led to a 12.5% hourly rally.
But that’s not even close to where the stock stopped.
Even in after-hours and pre-market trading, PLTR just kept chugging along. The stock eventually provided traders with a small retracement towards the 6-9-12 EMA cloud just before the market opened.
The next day, PLTR topped out around $164.50, representing a total move of approximately 31% from before the earnings report was released.
Below, I analyze the company’s recent earnings results and corporate guidance, how the stock reacted to the news, and why post-earnings momentum setups like this provide the cleanest intraday trends on the market.
PLTR Earnings & Fundamentals
The company reported EPS of $0.41, beating the consensus estimate of $0.35 by 17.14%, while revenue came in at $1.94 billion, exceeding estimates by 7.18%.
But even more impressive, revenue increased 92.83% year-over-year, highlighting just how quickly the company’s AI-driven business continues to scale.

Management didn’t stop there. Palantir raised guidance across the board, forecasting:
- Q3 revenue: $2.16-$2.164 billion (well above the $2.00 billion consensus)
- 2026 revenue: $8.150-$8.158 billion, up substantially from prior guidance of $7.65-$7.66 billion
- Higher operating income guidance
- Higher free cash flow guidance
- Higher U.S. commercial revenue guidance
CEO Alex Karp described demand for “AI sovereignty” as having been “unleashed,” noting that U.S. commercial revenue surged 149% year-over-year while the company’s Rule of 40 reached an extraordinary 155%.
Simply put, nearly every major fundamental metric exceeded expectations.
This was an exceptionally bullish earnings report supported by a similarly bullish outlook.
Technicals: Buyers Never Lost Control
Unlike many earnings setups that experience a sharp reversal after the initial reaction, PLTR immediately attracted aggressive buying. The stock closed its first hourly earnings candle up 12.05%, confirming strong institutional demand immediately following the report.

But several characteristics made this a high-quality momentum setup:
- Strong first-hour breakout (+12.05%)
- Very small upper wick (-1.63%)
- Very small lower wick (-0.78%)
- Hourly breakout confirmed
- 4-hour breakout confirmed
- Price remained above the 6-9-12 EMA Cloud
- Trend continued higher throughout the following trading session

The earnings were announced at 4 p.m., and despite a quick pullback in after-hours trading, PLTR moved another 5% higher between 5 p.m. and 6 a.m. the next morning.

For traders waiting for a pullback entry, they eventually got an ideal EMA entry right before the market opened.
By the opening bell, PLTR had already gained roughly 16% from the previous day’s close, yet buyers still weren’t finished.

Once the market opened, the stock took off and continued trending higher throughout almost the entire session.
Ultimately, this provided momentum traders with plenty of price action to trade.
Whether one entered at the close of the first hourly earnings candle, during after-hours or premarket trading, or on the pullback to the 6-9-12 EMA Cloud, PLTR demonstrates how a single earnings report can produce multiple high-quality entry opportunities when exceptional fundamentals align with bullish technicals.
Ultimately, by the close of the next day, PLTR’s results were:
- Maximum Favorable Excursion (MFE): +16.68% from the close of the hourly earnings candle to the intraday high.
- Maximum Adverse Excursion (MAE): -2.15% from the close of the hourly earnings candle to the intraday low.
- +9% profit target reached before a -5% stop loss, which is the standard risk management strategy I use when trading post-earnings momentum setups.
- +15.36% gain from the hourly earnings candle close through the end of the next trading day
Technically, this was about as clean as an earnings momentum breakout can be.

What Makes PLTR’s Case Study Interesting
One of the themes emerging throughout my momentum trading research is that when fundamentals and technicals align, momentum often becomes much easier to trust.
PLTR is an excellent example.
The earnings report was overwhelmingly bullish. The guidance was overwhelmingly bullish. And the price action confirmed that institutions agreed with those newly reported fundamentals.
Instead of fading the move or attempting to “buy the dip,” the market simply continued repricing the company higher.
This also serves as an excellent contrast to several other case studies.
Companies like RDDT and RBLX have recently demonstrated that even fundamentally strong reports can initially produce profitable short opportunities when price action turns bearish.

PLTR demonstrated the opposite. Both the fundamentals and the chart were telling exactly the same story.
When those two factors lined up, the trade required very little interpretation.
Final Takeaway – PLTR Case Study
Sometimes the highest-probability setup isn’t the most complicated one.
Sometimes all it takes to find an A+ long trade is recognizing that exceptional fundamentals, raised guidance, strong institutional buying, confirmed breakouts, and disciplined risk management are all pointing in the same direction.
PLTR became one of the strongest long setups I’ve seen in a while, and perfectly shows us what can happen when the market fully agrees with an outstanding earnings report.
